On the school grounds, Ethan and Devin are playing a game of "Dragon Wars". Ethan and Devin are enjoying trying to outwit each other with their cards. Kira and Cassidy, who are sitting nearby, did not understand what is so appealing about the game. Kira warns the guys that they can't play card games at school, but they continue. Ethan is surprised when he finds he has the rare Ruby Dragon. Devin immediately quits the game. Principal Randall walks up to the pair and tells them sometimes her job is too easy. Ethan tries to charm Principal Randall, but it doesn't work. Principal Randall wants the cards and Devin pleads Ethan's case. Devin tells Principal Randall that Ethan has the rare Ruby Dragon. Principal Randall mocks them by pretending that she won't take the cards, but she does. Principal Randall dismisses Ethan and Devin. Principal Randall takes a closer look at the Ruby Dragon card and decides it would make a perfect monster. Ethan is depressed and during science class, pays no attention to Dr. Oliver's lecture. Dr. Oliver asks what is going on and Devin explains what had happen. Dr. Oliver tells Ethan he will try and get the cards back from Principal Randall. Later, Dr. Oliver walks into Principal Randall's office and witnesses Principal Randall turning into Elsa. Elsa and Dr. Oliver battle in her office. Elsa knocks Dr. Oliver down to the ground and leaves. Dr. Oliver uses his communicator to forewarn the Rangers about Elsa. Dr. Oliver gets up and follows Principal Randall who is outside. Dr. Oliver and Principal Randall continue the battle. Students begin pouring out of the school, among them Conner, Kira, and Trent. They are all stunned at what they are seeing. Trent tells them that maybe Dr. Oliver knows something they don't. Cassidy and Devin are there as well and Cassidy tells Devin to begin filming. Principal Randall transforms into Elsa in front of the shocked students. Ethan joins Conner, Kira, and Trent and tells them, what they know now, that Principal Randall and Elsa are the same. Elsa tells Dr. Oliver to tell the school they will need to look for a new principal before she vanishes through an invisiportal. Ethan is still bummed, because Elsa still has his card.
Conner, Kira, Trent, and Ethan walked together. Everyone, except Trent, can't believe they didn't figure out that Principal Randall and Elsa were the same person. Trent tells them he might have a way to get Ethan's card back and takes off. Conner, Kira, and Ethan run into Dr. Oliver and they make arrangements to met later. Meanwhile, Trent is at Mesogog's fortress and confronts Elsa. Trent tells Elsa that Mesogog won't be pleased that she had blown her cover. Elsa retorts back that the Ranger's won't be too happy when they find out that Mesogog is Anton Mercer. This stops Trent for moment and then he proceeds to ask for Ethan's card back. Elsa already has the card in a container, ready to turn it into a monster. Trent and Elsa battle and during the battle, Trent accidentally sets off the equipment that turns the Ruby Dragon card into the Ruby Dragon monster. The Ruby Dragon monster follows Elsa's bidding and knocks Trent to the ground. In the woods, Kira, Conner, and Ethan wait with Dr. Oliver for Trent to show up. Conner is concern, but Dr. Oliver thinks Trent is simply held up at Cyberspace. Kira, Conner, Ethan, and Dr. Oliver are attacked by Ruby Dragon. They morphed into Rangers and the battle continues. Dr. Anton Mercer walks into Mesogog's fortress and finds Trent on the ground. Dr. Anton Mercer races to Trent's side and Trent tells him he is okay and asks where Elsa is. Dr. Anton Mercer loses control as Mesogog tries to take over. On the screen, they can see the Rangers battling Ruby Dragon. Dr. Anton Mercer tells Trent to help his friends. Trent reluctantly leaves his father. Morphed, Trent joins the Rangers in their battle against Ruby Dragon. Elsa and several Tyrannodrones appear and join the battle as well. Both Ruby Dragon and Elsa drop lots of hints to the Rangers that Trent has a secret. Conner goes Triassic and then battle armor. Elsa and Ruby Dragon retreat. The Rangers gathered around Trent and tell him that if he has a secret, now is the time to tell. The Rangers return to Dr. Oliver's home where they question Trent about his secret. Trent tells them that his secret is that he snuck onto Mesogog's fortress and tried to get Ethan's card back. Trent tells them that Elsa dealt him a very hard blow and he barely made it to help the Rangers. While the guys accept this explanation, Kira feels that there is more than Trent is saying. Trent leaves, claiming his head still hurts. On the screen, Ruby Dragon has return. Conner, Kira, Ethan, and Dr. Oliver morphed and battle Ruby Dragon once again. Ethan uses his Hovercraft Cycle to help them out. Eventually Trent, morphed, joins the Rangers in their battle against Ruby Dragon. The battle escalates to zords. Using three zords, the Rangers destroy Ruby Dragon. The following day, Dr. Oliver, Conner, Kira, and Ethan are walking along the school halls. Ethan has learned his lesson about bring his "Dragon War" cards to school and can't believe his friends still don't get it. They run into Dr. Mercer and Trent. Dr. Mercer tells Dr. Oliver that he understands that they are looking for a new principal. Dr. Oliver asks Dr. Mercer if he is interested. Kira quickly protests, saying that Dr. Mercer is too busy. Dr. Mercer agrees as he reaches for his cell phone. Out of Dr. Mercer's pockets falls the Ruby Dragon card. Everyone recognizes Ethan's card and wonders how Dr. Mercer got a hold of it. Dr. Mercer doesn't know how the card came to be in his coat pocket and asks Trent if it is his. Trent tells him it's not his and he doesn't know how it got there. Dr. Mercer doesn't look good and almost collapses. Dr. Mercer can feel Mesogog wanting to surface and breaks into a run. Kira, Conner, Ethan, and Dr. Oliver pursue him. Trent follows begging his friends to leave his dad alone. Dr. Mercer continues to run, telling them to leave him alone. Dr. Mercer is trapped in his former science class room. Kira, Conner, Ethan, and Dr. Oliver are stunned when Dr. Mercer loses control and Mesogog surfaces. Kira realizes this is Trent's big secret. Trent tries to make them understand that he had made a promise to his dad. Mesogog thinks that Trent has betrayed him, while Conner believes that Trent has betrayed them. Dr. Mercer surfaces one last time to apologize to Trent before disappearing into an invisiportal. Trent is left surrounded by the hostile glares of his friends.
