Dr. Oliver is teaching his class about volcanoes, which Devin tries to stay awake through. At the end of the class, Dr. Oliver makes a few announcements. One announcement is that Ethan James, current champion, will be competition in the National Detonation Man Video Game Competition at Hayley's Cyberspace. The other announcement is that there will be a sub the following day to teach the class. The class is dismissed and Cassidy tracks down Devin. Cassidy tells Devin they have a lot to do, but Devin tells her she is going to have to do it by herself as he has other plans. Conner and Kira find Dr. Oliver in his jeep and ask who the sub will be, as they definitely do not want it to be Dr. Mercer. Dr. Oliver assures them it will not be Dr. Mercer and tells them he is taking the day off to find Zeltrax. Later, at Cyberspace, Conner and Kira are concerned that Ethan isn't even practicing for the Detonation Man competition, but as far as Ethan is concerned, it's in the bag. The following day, Dr. Oliver searches the woods for Zeltrax. Meanwhile, at Reefside High School, the sub, Dr. Morton, teaches the class about volcanoes. Cassidy walks in twenty minutes late and it is very apparent that she is having a difficult time without Devin's help. Dr. Morton continues the class and informs them that Reefside was built over one. Principal Randall overhears the class and this gives her an idea. After school, Elsa and several Tyrannodrones enter Dr. Oliver's classroom and take Dr. Morton with them.
The following day, Ethan's confidence knows no bounds as he enters Hayley's Cyberspace with a t-shirt declaring that he is Detonation Man. Elsa uses Dr. Morton to create the Horn Rimmed Monster. Conner and Kira are walking along when the evil White Ranger appears. Zeltrax shows up as well. A battle breaks out and during the battle Zeltrax vanishes. Conner and Kira go to Dr. Oliver's lab to tell him of this latest development. The screen shows the Horn Rimmed Monster and the Rangers morphed and launched into another battle with Horn Rimmed Monster. Horn Rimmed Monster is busy making the volcano erupt. The volcano causes Cyberspace and the rest of Reefside to shake. Trent contacts Dr. Oliver to ask what is happening. Dr. Oliver instructs Trent to stay where he is at to protect the innocent people at Cyberspace. Dr. Oliver morphs and joins the Rangers in battling the Horn Rimmed Monster. The Horn Rimmed Monster summons several Triptoids. Dr. Oliver goes into super dino mode and eventually defeats the Horn Rimmed Monster. The Horn Rimmed Monster returns and the Rangers call for their zords and eventually destroy the Horn Rimmed Monster. With the destruction of the Horn Rimmed Monster, Dr. Morton is returned to a slightly dazed self. Meanwhile, Cassidy is falling apart without Devin's help. Later, at Hayley's Cyberspace, the Detonation Man competition begins. Trent announces the current champion, Ethan and the contender, Devin. Ethan is extremely confident that he will win, once he sees he is against Devin. Ethan scores extremely high and thinks he has won. Trent points out that Devin is still playing and Devin wins the competition. Ethan is in disbelief as the crowd swarms around the new champion, Devin. Cassidy storms in, furious that Devin has been neglecting her for video games. Cassidy is unable to get close to Devin as the crowd is packed tightly.
