Mike Corbett - The Second Magna Defender
Terra Venture was a space colony set to find a new world. Only a few people from Earth were chosen to travel aboard Terra Venture. Mike Corbett was one such individual. Calm and steady, he was Commander Stanton right-hand man. Mike also had friends who would be making this journey with him. Kendrix Morgan and Kai Chen were also personnel of Terra Venture. Mike took one long last look at Earth before heading for training exercises on the moon. On the moon, Mike and the rest of the crew went into action. During the training, Mike saw Kai take off in the direction of one of the bombs. He went to investiage what was going on. Mike found Kai, Kendrix and also his little brother Leo. Mike was angry at Leo for coming aboard. He had told Leo to stay behind. But Leo wanted to see what was out there as badly as Mike. Before much more could be said, a lovely young woman came through a vortex and landed at Mike and Leo's feet. She tried to get away, but Mike and Leo wouldn't let her. She was followed by strange looking creature called stingwingers. Mike and Leo fought them off. When the stingwingers left, the young woman introduced herself as Maya. She told them of her planet being taken over by Furio. Although Mike knew that Terra Venture would leave without them, he immediately decided to investiage the planet. Kai was against the idea. Kendrix and Leo both wanted to accompany Mike. Mike choose Kendrix and told Leo to stay with Kai. Mike, Kendrix, and Maya walked through the dimensional portal.
Mike, Kendrix, and Maya walked through a lush jungle. As they walked Kendrix asked Mike how come he never mention a little brother and that he was kind of hard on him. Mike didn't mean to be. Leo was a handful and Mike felt the need to keep an eye on him. Mike wasn't surprised to see that Leo had followed them, as they rescue him from a swarm of stingwingers. The foursome made their way back to Maya's village. Furio was busy terrorizing the people. Mike and his friends would help Maya and her people. They were joined by Kai and Damon. Soon they were all fighting stingwingers. Mike found himself backed up against a boulder. Reaching for anything, he pulled out one quasar saber and dealt a powerful blow. The villagers were stunned to see the saber removed from the stone. Kendrix, Damon, Kai, and Maya also pulled their quasar sabers from the stone. Furious, Furio struck the ground and everything began to turn to stone. Maya was reluctant to leave, but Mike pulled her along. They raced ahead, but were stopped by Furio again. Suddenly the ground began to shake and Mike lost his footing as the ground beneath him tore into two. Precariously he hung on until Leo's face appear above him. Mike urged Leo to take the saber. Leo begged Mike to give him his hand. Mike knew that it was important to save the saber and kept at Leo until Leo reached for the saber. Once he had the saber, he asked for Mike's hand. Mike told Leo how proud he was of him and let go. Calling to Leo to take care before the ground swallowed him up.
Before Mike reached the ground, a sword came flying and pin him to the wall. He hung there and felt his life force being taken. Mike now existed in a strange way. He resided within the Magna Defender. The Magna Defender was bent on revenge at all costs. As time went on, Mike began to make his presence known. He appeared to Leo and warn him that his friends needed his help. Mike's goodness began to weigh heavily on the Magna Defender's heart. Eventually, the Magna Defender sacrifice himself to save Terra Venture. When he did this, Mike's life force was return to his body and he made stumbling steps towards his friends. With a rueful smile, he embraced Kendrix, Kai, Damon, and Maya. Then Leo came running towards him. Hugging each other, Mike promised Leo that he would never leave him again.
Back at Terra Venture, Mike led a toast to the Magna Defender. After the toast, Leo returned Mike's tags. Leo wanted to talk to Mike. Mike had a lot to say as well about his experience. He would never take life for granted again. Before Leo could say anything, the Corbett brothers were needed. The other Rangers were battling a monster and stingwingers. Mike and Leo joined in the fight. The monster managed to trap Damon, Kendrix, Kai, and Maya into mirror pieces. Leo got badly hurt. Mike rushed to his side and got him safely back to Leo's quarters. Leo was furious at Mike. They needed to help their friends. Mike stayed unfrazzled by the situation which angered Leo even more. As Mike bandaged up Leo, he explained that he had left one of his tags in the back of a stingwinger. They would be able to find the rest of their friends. The journey was not easy for Mike and Leo, as they encountered a skelkorn on the way. They made quick work of it. Leo then tried to return the quasar saber to Leo. But Mike didn't want it. He knew that the saber had Leo's heart and soul in it. Again Leo tried to give the saber back, explaining that it was Mike who pulled the saber out. Mike thought that it was his destiny to pulled the saber and give it to Leo. Then behind Leo another skelkorn appeared and Mike tossed the saber to Leo. Leo destroyed it within seconds. Which prove to both of them, that Leo was the Red Ranger. Mike and Leo raced to rescue their friends. Once they freed the rest of the Rangers, they called forth their zords. The monster then trapped the zord into a mirror. Mike was so frustrated that he clenched his hand into a fist. He needed to help his friends. Much to his amazement, the Magna Defender and Ziko appeared before him. The Magna Defender told Mike that he needed to carry forth the legacy. Mike turned into the Magna Defender and helped his friends defeat the monster.
Mike was sitting at the Comet Cafe when a stunning young woman sat close by. Bulk and the Professor were quite smitten with the young woman and asked what she would like. When she replied that she would have what's he's having, Mike saw his hamburger being taken and given to the young woman. She returned the hamburger to Mike. Mike asked her name and she introduced herself as Tracy. Mike thought Tracy was quite amusing when she said that she was new here. Mike had to meet with his friends and asked Tracy if she would like to come along. When he entered the quarters of the other Rangers, Leo, Kai, and Damon were instant admirers of Tracy. Kendrix and Maya tried to get the guys to focus on the current problem. As they walked along a beam almost hit all of them. A monster appeared and quickly took Kendrix and Maya's beauty. Leo wanted to get Kendrix and Maya to safety, but Mike insisted on walking Tracy home. They stopped at a park for a drink. Mike gave Tracy a small toast and then proceeded with his drink. Soon he was gasping and fell to the ground. The monster soon appeared and gave Tracy a jar that contained all the beauty he had stolen. this was the opportunity Mike had been waiting for. Quickly he leaped up and grabbed the jar with the beauty. He then proceeded to pour all the beauty out. Leo had caught up with Mike and wanted to know how he knew. Mike explained how the fact that the monster did not touch Tracy had made him suspicious. Once again demonstrating his quick thinking without giving away anything. Tracy then revealed herself as Trakeena. There was another battle, but the Rangers were triumphant.
Mike enjoys staying in shape and one way he does this is by jogging. His jogging help the Rangers in another scheme Villmax had. Mike was jogging when he overheard some noises. He stopped and listened. When Mike heard where the noise was coming from, he crept very quietly behind some shrubs. There he spied Villmax and several stingwingers put together some kind of contraption. Kegler walked closely by and stumbled. Kegler was unaware that when he stumbled, a disc fell out. As soon as the coast was clear, Mike retrieve the disc. As he wonder what it was, he was attacked by the Chameliac Warrior. Mike quickly morph into the Magna Defender, but even this did not help, as the Chameliac Warrior knew all his moves. The other Rangers soon joined the fight. The Chameliac Warrior had retreated, but Mike had been badly hurt. Despite this, Mike make sure to grab the badly damaged disc. Back at the Astro Megaship, Mike was bandaged up, sitting in sick bay surrounded by his friends. He wanted to help them, but they refuse to let him get up. After they had left, Mike went ahead and got up. He knew that the disc contained important information and he had to find out what it was. Although he still was in a great deal of pain, Mike proceeded with the disc information. He found out that Villmax was building a laser gun to destroyed the galactic beasts. Mike refused to let that happen. He arrived at the spot of the laser gun and with a few well-placed shots, destroyed the laser gun and saved the galactic beasts from certain destruction.
Mike and Alpha found out that Damon, Kendrix, Kai, and Maya had been taken. Leo just entered the bridge of the Astro Megaship and Mike inform him of the news. A few paces behind was Andros. After Alpha gave Andros an affectionate hug, Mike introduced himself to Andros and told him what an honored it was to meet him. The guys had to quickly go into action to rescue the rest of the Galaxy Rangers. With Trakeena distracted by the appearance of two Red Rangers, Mike slipped in through the back way. Once Trakeena was gone, Mike broke free his friends. Soon they were all outside to confront, not only Trakeena, but the Psycho Rangers as well. They were also joined by Carlos, TJ, Ashley, and Cassie. After the defeat of the Psycho Rangers, all the Rangers went back to the Astro Megaship. Mike asked TJ how long they could stay. The Space Rangers could only stay a short time. Shortly after, Mike and the rest of Terra Venture ran into trouble. The entire space colony was surrounded by pink clouds. Mike didn't know what to make of it. The pink clouds began to shake Terra Venture around. Mike could do nothing but hang on. Then suddenly the pink clouds simply vanished. Mike would later find out that his friend Kendrix sacrifice herself for Cassie. Karone would eventually fill in the spot as the Pink Galaxy Ranger.
Several surges of electricity tossed Terra Venture about. They were in unfamiliar galaxy. As Mike informed Commander Stanton none of the controls worked. Even the clocks were malfunctioning. Commander Stanton left to inform the higher rank. Mike kept a close eyes on any new developments. He couldn't believe his eyes when an object appeared before them. Mike had the uncomfortable moment of hailing Commander Stanton and letting him know that a castle on a dinosaur's back was approaching Terra Venture. Mike and Kai flanked Commander Stanton as he awaited the alien approached. The alien introduced himself as Captain Mutiny and told them he meant them no harm. Captain Mutiny had a way to get Terra Venture back on course. Mike did not trust him, but Commander Stanton felt they had no choice. Commander Stanton sent Mike onto a heliship to follow Captain Mutiny. Cautiously they approach the planet Captain Mutiny had landed on. There was a huge crate that the swabbies were securing with a rope net. Captain Mutiny gave Mike the key to the crate. Mike didn't like any of it. He took a quick glance at his friends - who had secretly accompany the escort. Mike felt uneasy leaving them behind, but he knew that for the safety of Terra Venture and all aboard it, his friends needed to find out more about Captain Mutiny. He took controls of the heliship and flew the crate back to Terra Venture.
Back on Terra Venture, Mike along with Commander Stanton, watched the crate being opened. The creature within the crate burst out and soon escape underground. The Rangers informed Commander Stanton that Captain Mutiny had no intention of helping Terra Venture. Commander Stanton felt like he shouldn't have trusted Captain Mutiny. With Mike by his side, they began to search for the creature, Grunchor. Eventually, Mike and his friends were able to destroy Grunchor. Captain Mutiny had more plans to destroy the Rangers. Captain Mutiny summoned Hexuba to help him. She created flowers that once you smelled them, would cause you to fall in a deep sleep that puts you into a nightmare. Mike heard Leo summoned him over his morpher. When Mike reached Leo's quarters, Damon and Kai were asleep. Leo tried to fill Mike in on what had happened. Leo had already smelled the flowers and before he could stop him, Mike took a sniff of the flowers as well. Both of them fought falling asleep as they tried to locate the delivery boy. The delivery boy just happened to be in front of Mike's quarters when Mike and Leo found him. After getting rid of the flowers, Mike found the address of the flower shop. Leo had already fallen asleep and it was up to Mike. Mike staggered along and with sheer determination kept himself awake. He located the flower shop and was surprised to see that it was empty. Frustrated he grabbed the bar on the door and was transported into Hexuba's realm. She was eager to see him and cast him under her spell. From Hexuba's fingertips a surge that surrounded Mike by his waist. He was in a great deal of pain, but still managed to look around for something to help him. Mike saw a mirror and grabbed it and flash the surge back to Hexuba. The surge broke the dream spell and help his friends escape their nightmare.
Mike and his friends were running out of time. They needed to get Terra Venture out of the Lost Galaxy and they needed to rescue the people Captain Mutiny had turned into slaves. Mike decided he would be captured. Leo wanted to join his brother, but Mike insisted that Leo stay aboard Terra Venture in case they needed to use the Lights of Orion. Barbarax was on Terra Venture capturing people. Mike slipped into one group and was soon captured. On Captain Mutiny's planet, Mike and the other captured people were quickly placed in chains. Mike found himself chained alongside a young woman. Mike was constantly scanning the area, trying to figure out a way to freed the slaves. He saw the young woman needed some water and offered his. She refused, but Mike insisted. The young woman took a sip and Barbarax was soon on their case. She told Mike to never help her again. As Mike continued to scan the area, he noticed an elderly man having a difficult time digging up valuable gems. When it was time for Mike to turn in is bucket, he passed the elderly man and poured his gems into the elderly man's bucket. When Barbarax saw Mike's empty bucket, he was furious. Barbarax intended to make an example of Mike, but the young woman stopped Barbarax. She gave a lecture to the newbies and told Barbarax that she would make sure that Mike worked. Mike was puzzled by the young woman's change of attitude. Apparently the elderly man he had helped was her grandfather. At the end of the day, the slaves were being led back to their cells. Mike saw an opportunity to escape and grabbing the young woman, he dashed into a hiding place. The young woman saw her grandfather and let out a call for him. Mike covered her mouth, but feared that they would now be found. The grandfather had seen the whole thing and covered for them by grabbing a bucket of water and pretending to be delirious. As the grandfather was taken away, he gave a nod to Mike and his granddaughter. Mike and the young woman managed to get away. Mike used his morpher to call Leo and told him to be there in a half an hour. The young woman asked Mike who he was. This was neither the time or place to go into that, so Mike simply told her he would tell her later. Mike fought the few swabbies who were watching the cells and with the keys, they both freed the people within the cells. The Rangers had landed the Astro Megaship onto the planet and were urging people aboard. The young woman couldn't find her grandfather and asked one of the passing people where he was. He replied that Barbarax had taken him. The young woman made to leave, but Mike told her to stayed. She had a streak of determination and was not about to leave her grandfather behind. She took off to search for him, and Mike followed her. They freed her grandfather and were almost to the Astro Megaship when Barbarax and Divot confronted them. Mike urged the young woman and her grandfather to keep going. Running into full charge, Mike morphed into the Magna Defender. Mike put up a fierce fight, but in the end he was defeated. He demorph and laid on the ground, when the original Magna Defender appeared. He urged Mike on. Using every last bit of strength, Mike got on his feet. He knew what he had to do. Leo and Kai managed to open to the portal to their galaxy, but it was now closing and none of the ships had made it through. Racing past Terra Venture, Mike, in his zord, held open the portal. The pressing weight of the closing portal made it tough, and then in an huge explosion, the portal was open once more. Terra Venture and the Astro Megaship made it through. Mike was found by Leo, unconscious and floating in space. Leo quickly took Mike back to Terra Venture. When Mike opened his eyes, he saw Leo and the young woman. The young woman was sorry that Mike had lost his powers to help him. But Mike was not. As far as he was concerned, that was what the powers were for. Mike's wrist felt empty without the morpher. The original Magna Defender appeared as well and told Mike that he gave a fitting end to the Magna Defender's legacy. Mike had every reason to smile for the legacy he had left for both of them.
Although no longer the Magna Defender, Mike still had an important job to do - get Terra Venture to the new world. There was a new world close by that met all the requirements for life that the people on Terra Venture needed. Commander Stanton made the announcement that the new world had been found and unveiled to the people of Terra Venture. It was an exciting time and Mike did not want to miss one single moment. He gazed at the new world with great anticipation. The moment had arrived - it was time to start docking procedures. As the docking procedures began, Terra Venture began to shake. Trakeena was back and after them. Terra Venture crashed on the moon orbiting the new planet. It was not safe for them to stay there, as the dome on Terra Venture began cracking. Evacuation process had begun. Mike kept a level head during the entire crisis.
The people of Terra Venture had all been safely boarded on shuttle crafts. Mike went looking for Commander Stanton. He found him, gazing out at the destroyed city of Terra Venture. Mike let him that they were the last people aboard Terra Venture and that it was time to go. As Commander Stanton left, Mike took one last look at Terra Venture. The shuttle crafts had difficulty reaching the new world as Trakeena began to attack them. The Rangers in the Astro Megaship began attacking Trakeena's ship, and this enabled the shuttle crafts to land safely on the new world. Mike was busy getting everyone set up and organizing the supplies. He was also concerned about his little brother. No one had seen Leo. Mike found out that Leo was on Terra Venture and that it was heading on a crash collision with the new planet. Mike inform the other Rangers that Leo was battling Trakeena on Terra Venture. No longer the Magna Defender, Mike could not join his friends in helping Leo. He was stuck on the planet and could only hope that his friends and brother would make it. People began to take cover as Terra Venture got closer. The Megazord appeared and slowed down Terra Venture, although it still crashed on the new planet. Mike watched as Terra Venture burst into a huge explosion. Mike couldn't believe it. He had lost Leo and his friends. Mike struggled with his emotions as he walked to Commander Stanton's side. Gradually the smoke dimmed and the Rangers appeared on their galactic beasts - everyone was okay. The sense of relief was great in Mike. He, and the rest of the people, soon joined the Rangers in their congratulations that all had gone well. Maya and Leo began to walk away from the crowds. Mike and the rest of the Rangers followed them. Maya uncovered a vine covered rock that revealed that they were on the planet Mirinoi. Mike watched as his friends returned their quasar sabers into the stone. A swirl of gold lights emerged from the sabers and the Rangers were demorph. The gold lights continued and soon everything that had been turned to stone was returned to it's natural state. There was one last surprise for Mike and his friends. A glowing light began to descend and Kendrix emerged from that light. Numerous new challenges await this young man, but Mike is more than able to arise to the occasion.
