Shadow Ranger and Red Ranger are in a training session.  Shadow Ranger defeats Red Ranger during the session.  Shadow Ranger begins to walk away.  Red Ranger tries one last time, but Shadow Ranger turns around and breaks Red Ranger's sword.  Red Ranger and Shadow Ranger demorph.  Jack wants to train using Commander Cruger's sword.  Commander Cruger refuses, telling him it's the swordsman, not the sword that wins.  Jack is unconvinced.  Meanwhile, Emperor Gruumm comes up with a plan.  Emperor Gruumm uses the time portal, to bring Katana from the past and into present.  Katana is an alien who was trained by a Samurai and became the first alien Samurai.  Back at headquarters, Bridge is showing his friends his new weapon - he can read energy thoughts.  Z, Sky, and Syd - who is reading a magazine with her on the cover - are not convinced.  Jack has his back towards the group - deep in thought.  Sky, Syd, and Z want Bridge to read Jack's thoughts.  Bridge tells them Jack's thoughts.  Syd, Sky, and Z bring Jack's attention to the group and ask him what he is thinking.  Jack repeats everything that Bridge was said, that it's not fair that Commander Cruger won't let him use his sword, that he could defeat if he had it, and that Commander Cruger knows it and that's why he won't let him use the sword.  Bridge's friends are impressed.  The alarms go off and the B Squad cadets hurry into the command center.  Kat and Commander Cruger told them that a time portal has open in Kyoto, Japan.  Commander Cruger sends the B Squad cadets to Kyoto to stop Katana.  In Japan, Katana is confused by how different everything looks.  The B Squad cadets land in Kyoto and they use Bridge's new weapon to find Katana.  Katana assumes by the cadets aggressive stance, that they are invaders and a battle breaks out.

Katana kicks Jack's weapon out of his hand.  Jack is on the ground and hands up his hands in surrender.  Katana doesn't think it's honorable to fight an opponent without a weapon.  Katana gives Jack his weapon back and the battle continues.  Broodwing doesn't like the odds and releases several Krybots.  The cadets battle the Krybots and Katana leaves.  After the battle, the cadets want to search for Katana.  Jack tells them of what Katana had him, but didn't battle him because he didn't have a weapon.  Katana explores Kyoto and is more confused by the places familiarity yet differences.  Broodwing arrives and tells Katana that the Power Rangers want to destroy Kyoto - the city Katana has swore to protect.  Meanwhile, Bridge picks up a temporal energy reading of Katana, but it's fading fast.  The cadets suit up and find Katana at a temple.  While the Rangers battle Katana, a giant robot appears in the city and takes several temples.  The Rangers contact Commander Cruger for help.  Kat tells Commander Cruger they can get to Japan in fifteen minutes.  Commander Cruger is reluctant to leave Newtech City defenseless, but he can not let Gruumm get a foot hold anywhere.  The base forms the Delta Command Crawler and at a rapid speed, they arrive in Kyoto.  The delta runners are released and the Rangers quickly enter them and battle the giant robot.  They discovered that the robot is being piloted by a Bluehead.  Shadow Ranger tells them that they need more power and to return to base.  The Rangers do so and form the Delta Command Megazord.  They battle the giant robot.  Shadow Ranger wants to know what Gruumm's plans are with Katana.  Red Ranger wants to go after Katana, but wants to use the Shadow Saber.  Shadow Ranger reluctantly gives Red Ranger the Shadow Saber.   Jack finds Katana and tells him that Emperor Gruumm is using him for his own evil purposes.  Katana tells Jack that the only way to find out if he is telling the truth is to duel.  Jack suits up and Katana and Red Ranger duel.  Meanwhile, the rest of the Rangers continue to battle the giant robot.  Kat informs the Rangers that if they aim for the orbs, they will not damage the buildings and destroy the robot.  The Rangers do so and the buildings are returned to their original locations, and the giant robot is destroyed.  In the woods, Red Ranger and Katana continued to duel and eventually Red Ranger wins.  Red Ranger apologizes as he runs the judgment scanner on Katana.  The scanner finds Katana not guilty.  Kat informs Jack that the time portal is opening for one last time. The time portal opens up and Jack tells Katana that he can stay with them or go home.  Katana feels that the future is safe with the Rangers protecting Earth and wants to go back in time where he belongs.  Katana goes through the time portal and returns home.  Jack walks away - happy with the turn of events.  Afterwards, SPD headquarters returns to Newtech City.  Commander Cruger informs the B Squad cadets that they had a victory, but at a cost of a loss.  Commander Cruger tells the cadets by going to Japan, they left Newtech City defenseless and Emperor Gruumm took advantage.  Emperor Gruumm had the Krybots steal several containers of Iridium.  Commander Cruger tells the cadets that Emperor Gruumm is up to something and they need to find out what it is.  The cadets leave the command center trailed by a small, white orb .  Later, Jack and Commander Cruger met outside.  Jack is thrilled that he finally has the shadow saber.  Commander Cruger tells Jack that he does not have the shadow saber and the saber reverts to it's turn form in Jack's hands.  Jack is upset that Commander Cruger let him take on the most powerful Samurai in the history with an ordinary sword.  Commander Cruger points out that Jack won.  Commander Cruger challenges Jack to another lesson.  They both suit up and begin to duel.
